Hong Kong has an immense history and vibrant culture completely unique to both Asia and world itself. It was originally a small fishing village that housed many pirates and merchants alike and was leased out to the British and made a colony following the end of a war which resulted in the Treaty of Nanking. The Nation was later handed over to the People's Republic of China following the deadline of Britain's ownership of the land in 1997. Throughout it's history, Hong Kong has been revered for its high economic and political freedoms found nowhere in the rest of the modern world. It is a unique blend of European and Chinese culture.
