Description
The 24th Regiment of Foot also known as the South Wales Borderers was a Welshman regiment serving the British Army, they were in existence for almost 280 years. Though their garrison/HQ is The Barracks, Brecon they served all over the world from the Caribbean to Quebec, France and India and even saw action in both world War's. But what interests us most is its time spent in serving in South Afrika and the ZULU war. They were present in an amazing stand against the Zulu's at Rorke's Drift where a Garrison of 140 British men from the 24th Regiment Of Foot many of them wounded fought for twelve hours fighting off 3000 Zulu Warriors. An incredible 11 Victoria Crosses (The Highest Military Award in the World.) were awarded to the brave men at Rorke's Drift. The Battle took place January 22 - January 23 1879. --- Founded: June First 2020 Founder: TheNorthernPlayer Language: English Era: 1870's Slow March: Men of Harlech Anthem: God Save the Queen
