bald faced wasps are beautiful beasts, and have a powerful yet calm attitude. they are still scary when they fly in your face though. they are called bald face hornets but are not true hornets. they are a type of yellow jacket. they create suspended paper nests in overhangs, cliffs and buildings. The nests can grow to be quite large. the average bald faced wasp nest houses 100-400 drones. they are aggressive like yellow jackets if you near their hive. they can be found in the united states and southern canada. their stings itch and swell 24 hours after the initial sting. they are ivory and black. they like to eat soft shelled insects, sweet nectar from flowers and human drinks, and meat. if one flies in your face but doesn't sting you, then its probably just inspecting you. if you dont want to be bothered by them, avoid strong smelling perfume and dont bring sweet drinks and food outdoors.
