Description

The Special Mission Task Force-Silver (SMTF-S), commonly referred to as Task Force Silver, is a classified U.S. military special operations organization assigned to United States Special Operations Command. Established in 2015 amid the expansion of the Islamic State and broader concerns over the strain placed on U.S. special operations forces, SMTF-S is tasked with conducting low-visibility counterterrorism and national-security operations in politically sensitive, denied, or otherwise restricted overseas environments. Its known mission set includes direct action, hostage rescue, sensitive personnel recovery, capture of designated high-value individuals, and the recovery or destruction of sensitive material. The task force operates under national-level military authority, while its personnel, location, command arrangements, and operational history remain classified.
