2007年昌图县，地处辽宁最北端，坐落于辽、吉林、内蒙古三省交界，是全国赫赫有名的产粮大县，当年连续五年获评全国粮食生产先进县，全年粮食总产量突破18亿公斤，广袤的松辽平原上遍布玉米大田与村落，下辖33个乡镇，乡镇路网基本实现乡乡通油路，村村通砂石路。 县城核心是昌图老城区，行政中心依旧是政府大路那栋90年代建成的六层米黄色老县政府大楼，还未启动新区搬迁建设。红砖外立面的昌图老火车站是县城对外门户，哈大铁路、102国道、沈哈高速穿境而过，南来北往的货车、老式桑塔纳、捷达轿车往来穿梭。2007年全新落成的县文化中心大楼，是当年县城最亮眼的新建地标，北山文化广场、站前广场是城区居民日常休闲的主要去处。 全县以农业为根基，八面城、古榆树、宝力等乡镇依托花生、生猪种植加工形成地方产业、街头遍布粮油收购站、农资小店、老式临街商铺。城区街道两侧栽满北方老杨树，老式路灯排布整齐；昌图县公安局坐落于老城核心区域，下辖三十余个乡镇派出所，04式涂装的桑塔纳警车、金杯勘察车奔波在城乡道路上：秋冬多冷风阴天，东北乡村的大秧歌、集市赶集是当地人最常见的生活景象，整个县城带着辽北北方小城质朴厚重的年代气息。
