Description
House of Kantakouzinos Founded in antiquity Re-branded 03/04/2026 The House of Kantakouzinos (Οἶκος Καντακουζηνοῦ) is a distinguished Greek-Byzantine aristocratic family of ancient lineage, tracing its origins to the Byzantine Empire. The family rose to prominence in Constantinople and the Balkans, producing emperors, princes, statesmen, military commanders, and diplomats. The Kantakouzinos name is most closely associated with Emperor John VI Kantakouzinos, who ruled the Byzantine Empire from 1347 to 1354. Following the fall of Constantinople, branches of the family remained influential across the Balkans, particularly in Wallachia and Moldavia, where they became among the region's most powerful aristocratic houses. The family is remembered for its imperial heritage, political influence, wealth, and enduring connection to Byzantine and Greek history.
