British Expeditiοnary Fοrce #6911096
Description
𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞 The British Expeditionary Force (BEF), was an expeditionary force created upon the outbreak of war in 1914, that was sent to France to fight on the Western Front. Numbering only 150 000 men in 1914, the BEF was small compared to its larger French allies and German enemies. Unlike both who relied on conscripts however, it was made up entirely of regular, professional soldiers from the British Army. The BEF would perform ably and help stem the tide of the German attacks, but would suffer terribly as a result. By the end of 1914, the original BEF were almost wiped out, with the massive losses to the irreplaceable pre-war regular soldiers replaced with new inexperienced civilian volunteers and Territorial units.
