The majority of the Regiment, held the ridge above ########### After repelling the the ###### French assault on the ridge, the 1st Foot Guards won their name. As the French Old and Middle Guard marched up the ridge, it was the Ist Foot Guards who repelled them with a massive volley, and bayonet charge. With this, the French Army fled. The Ist Regiment of Foot Guards won their name the ######### Guards by defeating the French Grenadiers and ######### of the Old and Middle Guard. They are the only British Regiment in history, who has won their name from acts of valor and bravery in battle.
