After France's defeat at the hands of a united alliance in 1871, the German sovereigns assembled in the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles, the seat of French grandeur, and declared the King of Prussia as their emperor. The Russians have had a revolution that forced the once invincible throne of the Tsar to adopt a constitution, and the Russian military's humiliation by the Japanese has the Tsar looking for glory to save his regime. The Austro-Hungarian empire is crumbling from ethnic tension. However, things are not looking great in the German Empire either. While its economy is one of the, if not the strongest in the world, the days of the great men such as Bismarck and Moltke the Elder are over.
