Description
The 58th Volunteer Infantry also known as the Polish Legion was formed in August after the the First Battle of Bull Run by Włodzimierz Krzyżanowski a veteran of the Polish uprising of 1848. The regiment was placed in Blenker's Division of the 2nd Corps while they fought in the Eastern Theater. The Polish Legion fought valiantly at the Battle of Gettysburg at Cemetery Hill and fought the Louisiana Tigers at East Cemetery Hill. The regiment was disbanded when the war ended.
