The command is a separate military investigative force with investigative autonomy, meaning CID special agents report through the CID chain of command to the ACIC Commanding General, who reports directly to the Chief of Staff of the Army. The mission of The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command is to conduct and control all Army investigations of serious crimes and less serious crimes upon request or as needed to enforce Army law or regulations.
