Naším úkolem je chránit bezpečnost osob a majetku, chránit veřejný pořádek a předcházet trestné činnosti. Plnit rovněž úkoly podle trestního řádu a další úkoly na vnitřní pořádek a bezpečnosti svěřené jí zákony, předpisy Evropských společenství a mezinárodními smlouvami, které jsou součástí právního řádu České republiky.
