Domus Grimani di Venezia #709979535
OtherENHistoryVeniceRenaissance
Description
The House of Grimani was a powerful Venetian noble family that rose to prominence in the 15th and 16th centuries. They gained wealth through banking, commerce, and strong ties to the Catholic Church, producing notable figures like Cardinal Domenico Grimani, a major patron of Renaissance art and humanism. The family built the Palazzo Grimani and amassed a significant collection of antiquities and artworks. Though no Grimani became Doge, they held high political and religious offices, influencing both civic and ecclesiastical life. Their legacy endures through architecture, art, and their role in shaping Renaissance Venice.
