Ocak-ı Yeniçeriyân #71197985
Description
𝗝𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗦𝗦𝗔𝗥𝗬 𝗖𝗢𝗥𝗣𝗦 "We cannot be counted on the fingers, nor are we exhausted by being routed." Established by Sultan Murad I in the fourteenth century, the Janissary Corps served as the Ottoman Empire's first permanent standing army and its most prestigious infantry force. Recruited initially through the devşirme system and trained under strict military discipline, the Janissaries were organized into regiments (ortas) and sworn to absolute loyalty to the Sultan. Their rigorous education, professional training, and battlefield experience made them one of the most formidable military institutions of the early modern world. By 1808, the Ocak-ı Yeniçeriyân remained one of the oldest and most influential institutions of the Ottoman Empire. Although no longer the unrivaled battlefield force it had once been, the Janissary Corps continued to serve as the Empire's official standing infantry and maintained a powerful presence in Constantinople and the provincial garrisons.
