Description
Montclair County is one of the oldest counties in Mountclair. Known for its large metropolitan city, wealthy neighborhoods, and rural farmland, the county has a major influence on state politics. However, behind the growing economy are problems with organized crime, corruption, and conflicts between city and rural communities. The Montclair County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) was founded in 1849 as the primary law enforcement agency responsible for protecting the rural communities, farms, and growing settlements throughout Montclair County. Originally consisting of a Sheriff and a small group of deputies on horseback, the agency expanded as the county developed into one of the largest and most influential regions in the State of Mountclair. Throughout the late 1800s and early 1900s, MCSO handled everything from frontier disputes and bootlegging operations to protecting major transportation routes connecting the county to surrounding regions.
