Description
Berserkjaflokkurinn (“A Band of Berserkers”) was a warband from the northern fjords of Scandinavia during the late Viking Age (c. 9th–11th centuries). They were said to fight in a trance-like frenzy, biting shields, foaming at the mouth, and impervious to pain, shrugging off arrows and blows that would fell ordinary men. Equipped in bear or wolf pelts, they fought like beasts and struck terror into both foes and allies alike. Skaldic accounts hint that their fury was both spiritual and martial, a ritualized channeling of Odin’s own wrath before battle.
