Description
The Crimean Khanate or Taht-i Qırım and Deşt-i Qıpçaq (proper name - Taht-i Qırım and Deşt-i Qıpçaq, Crimean Tatar: Crimean Khanate) was a Crimean Tatar state that ruled in Crimea between 1441-1783. In the 13th and 14th centuries, the Tatar tribes, who had advanced into Russia and the Kipchak steppe (Deşt-i Qıpçaq), left their nomadic life and settled in Crimea. After the collapse of the Golden Horde, the race to establish dominance in this region was won by Hacı Giray, a descendant of Toka Temür, the younger son of Jochi, one of the sons of Genghis Khan, who ruled the Tatars.
