Description
The Deutsches Heer also known by the name of Reichsheer (national army), kaiserliches Heer (imperial army) or Kaiserreichsheer (army of the German empire), was the set of German military ground forces operating between 1871 and 1919, coinciding with the birth and fall of the German Empire. It was officially created on July 29, 1871 with the Ordnung für Kriegsbundes Armee in Deutschland decree, issued by order of the chancellor. The German army fought mainly during the First World War, demonstrating discipline, cohesion and tenacity, managing to resist for four years against the superior numerical and material power of the nations of the Entente. The troops were able to fight on enemy soil until the armistice of 11 November 1918 and returned neatly to their homeland where they were greeted with gratitude by the leaders of the new republican Germany following the fall of William II.
