Description

Batallón de Manila was organized in Malabon in 1898 under the command of Brigadier General Pantaleon García and Colonel Cipriano Pacheco, becoming part of the Philippine Republican Army’s defensive forces in the capital region. With the outbreak of the Philippine–American War in February 1899, the battalion took part in the Battles of Caloocan, a series of engagements fought north of Manila that held great strategic significance. Caloocan was a vital rail and supply junction, and its defense was crucial for maintaining Filipino control over the approaches to the city. Despite determined resistance, the battalion and other revolutionary units were ultimately forced to withdraw in the face of superior American firepower and organization.
