Description
𝐀𝐫𝐦é𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩é𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧ç𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞 The year is 1809, and the French Imperial Army stands at the height of its power since the Empire’s establishment in 1804. The armies of France, organized into independent corps spread across Europe, have dominated the continent. To the southwest lies the French army in Spain, fighting a brutal war for control of the Iberian Peninsula. To the east, the Armée d’Allemagne has advanced into the Austrian Empire. Following the campaigns in Bavaria and Austria, and the hard-fought battles of Eckmühl and Aspern-Essling, the army has concentrated around Vienna, preparing to cross the Danube. Meanwhile, in Spain, the war remains contested, with neither side securing a decisive victory. French corps are dispersed across the peninsula, fighting the British, Portuguese, and Spanish armies, alongside independent guerrilla resistance. Arthur Wellesley has driven Marshal Soult’s forces out of Portugal and has begun his counteroffensive into Spain.
