During the settlement of the Texas Frontier after the Revolution, marshals served as the main source of day-to-day law enforcement in areas that had no local government of their own, they often worked with Texas Rangers on a daily basis in join operations. Marshals were instrumental in keeping law and order in the Republic era. After Texas' annexation by the United States, the Marshals of the Republic of Texas were either merged into local law enforcement or put in the US Marshals program. 1836 - 1846
