Description
Wallachia was a wild and contested frontier land of dense forests, mountain passes, and scattered fortified villages. Positioned between the Kingdom of Hungary, the Golden Horde, and the fading influence of the Byzantine Empire, it was a region shaped by warfare, trade, and shifting alliances. Orthodox monasteries and local Boyar rulers dominated daily life, while peasants farmed river valleys beneath the shadow of the Carpathian Mountains. By the 14th century, leaders such as Basarab I and his son, Nicolae Alexandru began unifying the land into an independent principality, laying the foundation for Wallachia.
