Description
The Hellenic Democratic Guerilla Army (EDAS) was formed in December 1943 by Mixahl Vangelis in the turmoil of Axis-occupied Greece. As the country fractured into competing resistance groups, EDAS presented itself as a small but disciplined force focused on democratic republican ideals. Operating mainly in the central highlands, its fighters carried out targeted sabotage, protected local villages, and tried to stay independent from larger communist and monarchist factions. Though modest in size, EDAS became known for its organized tactics and clear political stance amid the messy landscape of Greek guerilla warfare.
