Description
the Leibgrenadiergarde was raised in 1729. It was created from the uniting of grenadiers from all Saxon line infantry regiments with from Saxony and Thuringia. Recruitment would always happen in the town and district of Dresden; the Saxon part of the county of Hennenberg; the Schonburg lordships of Glaucha, Waldenburg, and Lichtenstein/Sa; the county of Hartenstein; and the Lordship of Stein. In 1763 a battalion was recruited in Warsaw but was disbanded in 1764. Its headquarters was always Dresden. Taking heavy losses in 1813, its remnants of were united with those of the Regiment Konig with men from places in south Saxony-Anhalt, east Saxony, Central Saxony, and Thuringia; and other Saxon line grenadiers to form the Provincial Guards Regiment; which in 1814 was renamed to the Garde-Grenadier-Regiment. Then in 1815 the regiment was renamed to Leib-Grenadier-Regiment which garrisoned in Dresden and performed guard, honorary, and escort duties. The guard was disbanded in 1848
