It is the oldest and largest active duty division in the United States Marine Corps, representing a combat-ready force of more than 19,000 men. It is an expeditionary ground combat force. It is nicknamed "The Old Breed" [ππ§ππ¨π«π¦πππ’π¨π§] The purpose of the 1st Marine Division is to be the main skilled infantry force sent first to secure an LZ point for the main events. They are sent out of special combat missions and also sent on expeditionary ground combat missions too.
