Description
In the 1960s, the Australian Defence Force (ADF) shifted from "forward defence" with allies towards self-reliance, heavily involved in Southeast Asian conflicts. Key actions included deploying troops to Borneo (1964–1966) and the Vietnam War (1962–1975), which prompted the 1964 introduction of selective conscription (national service) to boost army numbers.
