Description

The Defense Department was established in 2013 to act as the civilian oversight over the United States Military. In that time, dozens of Defense Secretaries have served to act as the civilian link to the military and the government. Moreover, the Defense Department serves as the civilian policy making apparatus for the United States Military. Such offices under the Defense Department include the Office of Intelligence, Office of Records, Office of Technology, and Office of Personnel and Readiness. Such offices work in conjunction with the Chairman and the Defense Secretary to coordinate and supplement civilian oversight. The Secretary of Defense is the direct overseer of the Department of Defense, and as such, is the nominal head of the department and the civilian secretary over the United States military.
