Description

Istria, a peninsula at the northeast corner of the Adriatic Sea, was part of the territory Austria ceded to France after the Battle of Austerlitz. The territory, along with the rest of the Illyrian provinces, were incorporated into the Kingdom of Italy. In 1806, a battalion was raised there for coastal defense against British raiders, but sought action in the early years of the Napoleonic Wars before being absorbed into the Italian light infantry in 1810.
