In time, this conflict escalated into a civil war between the communists and the government forces of Sweden. At the conclusion of this war, Sweden found itself split into two separate entities. The communist side won control of Northern Sweden, while Southern Sweden, including Stockholm, came under the rule of Storsveariket, a temporary government formed to protect Swedish sovereignty and order.
