Infanterie-Regiment Prinz von Preußen #780172646
Description
The Prussian “Prinz von Preußen” Infantry (IR 18) was a long-standing line regiment closely connected to the royal house. Under Frederick the Great, its colonel-proprietor (Inhaber) was his brother Prince August Wilhelm from 1742; after he fell from favor and died in 1758, the post passed to the Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm, later King Frederick William II. During the Seven Years’ War, the regiment served with Frederick’s main field army in the Bohemian and Silesian campaigns, participating in the 1757 battles of Prague, Breslau, and Leuthen, and later engaging at Zorndorf on 25 August 1758, where contemporary accounts note that Frederick commended its conduct. Structurally, it comprised two battalions of musketeers, and its two grenadier companies were detached in wartime to the converged Grenadier Battalion “Kleist” (15/18) alongside the grenadiers of IR 15.
