Description
The Jibu-shō (治部省), often translated as the Ministry of Civil Administration, was responsible for matters of status, ceremonies of a formal/legal nature, and the regulation of social order within the court and state. Its duties included overseeing court ranks and titles, managing records related to aristocratic families, and handling affairs concerning foreign envoys, funerals, mourning regulations, and official rites tied to status and propriety. It also supervised certain temples and institutions connected to state ritual obligations.
