Description
Mamluks of Egypt The Memâlik-i Mısır represented the powerful military elite that had shaped the affairs of Egypt for centuries. Descended from the warrior tradition of the Mamluk Sultanate, these cavalrymen maintained great influence within the Eyalet-i Mısır, serving as skilled horsemen, provincial leaders, and guardians of Egypt’s military order. By 1808, the Mamluks remained a formidable force within the eyalet, preserving their authority through their military skill, wealth, and long-established networks of power. Though officially under Ottoman rule, they continued to play a central role in the governance and defense of Egypt, standing as one of the most renowned warrior traditions of the Nile.
