2nd Company of Marines #791631959
Description
𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐬 – 𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 “The Marine Rifles” The 2nd Company of Marines was organized in March 1839 during the reorganization of the Texian naval service to provide additional guards and landing parties for ships and coastal stations. Often issued rifles when available, the company was frequently employed in duties requiring accurate fire during landings and shore operations rather than close-order fighting. Detachments from the company served aboard Texian warships and in expeditions ashore, securing positions, covering movements, and supporting other marine parties as circumstances required. Like other marine detachments of the Republic, its role depended on immediate need, though it was commonly used where deliberate aim and dispersed fighting proved most effective. The 2nd Marines represent the extension of naval service onto land in terrain where controlled fire and flexibility were more valuable than formation. Company Cap: 10
