𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐮𝐱𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐬 - 𝐀𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐦𝐚 𝐑𝐞𝐝 𝐑𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬 The Alabama Red Rovers were organized in 1835 in the state of Alabama as a volunteer company composed of American citizens who joined the Texian cause during the Texas Revolution. Raised outside the borders of Texas, the company formed part of the wider auxiliary movement encouraged by the Provisional Government to strengthen its forces with volunteers from the United States. Like many such units, the Red Rovers were characterized by a degree of organization and identity uncommon among early Texian forces, including their distinctive name and dress. Their service reflected the reliance of the revolutionary army on externally raised companies during the conflict, prior to the establishment of a formal regular army under the Republic. 1835-1836
