🏛️ LEGIO XX — VALERIA VICTRIX ⚔️ Legio XX Valeria Victrix was one of Rome’s most renowned legions, serving the Empire for centuries and becoming closely associated with the Roman conquest and occupation of Britannia. The legion’s history can be traced back to the early Roman Empire. It took part in major campaigns during the reigns of emperors such as Claudius, Nero, and Vespasian, before being sent to Britain following the Roman invasion of AD 43. In Britain, the Twentieth Legion fought in campaigns that expanded Roman control across the island. Its soldiers served along the frontier, built roads and fortifications, and helped establish Roman rule. The legion was eventually based at Deva Victrix, modern-day Chester, where it remained for centuries. The title Valeria Victrix, meaning roughly “Valiant and Victorious,” reflects the honors and victories associated with the legion. LEGIO XX VALERIA VICTRIX Strength through discipline.
