Description
Voisko Zaporozhskoe - the name of the Cossack military-political formations in the XVI-XVIII centuries, founded by the Cossacks outside the rapids of the Dnieper. Since the time of Prince Dmitry Vishnevetsky, the Zaporozhian Cossacks have provided a "pledge", that is, the protection of the southern outskirts of the Commonwealth and the Russian Kingdom from Tatar raids, equipping tree-earthen towns and forts. Among the Cossacks there were many hunted Cossacks who served as mercenaries for money. Along with the military class, numerous rovers and fugitive peasants who fled from Poland, Russia and the Crimean Khanate to Dikoe Pole from disgrace settled in the towns and villages of the Zaporizhzhya Sich.
