Roger Lake's Company #808065174
Description
The Roger Lake's Company traces its lineage to the Estrepagny family, a small Norman household that left France in 1656 during the great colonial push toward New France. Unlike many settlers who clung to the fortified towns along the St. Lawrence, the Estrepagnys sought the unmapped edges of the colony. Drawn by furs, forests, and freedom, they migrated steadily north-west, following Indigenous trade routes deeper into the wilderness. By the late 16th century, the family had established a seasonal hunting base near what is now Lake Roger in Abitibi, a region known for harsh winters, dense spruce forests, and vast, silent water bodies. The Estrepagnys became one of the earliest French families documented to regularly push this far inland.
