Camden & Amboy Railroad #813453020
Description
The Camden & Amboy Railroad was one of North America's first railroads, chartered in New Jersey in 1830 to link the New York and Philadelphia areas via a rail line between Camden and South Amboy. A pioneer in railroad technology, it developed the T-style rail and modern ties and connectors, revolutionizing track construction. The C&A's primary line ran from South Amboy to Bordentown and Camden, connecting with steamboats on the Delaware River to form part of a major transportation corridor between New York and Philadelphia. The company was consolidated with other lines into the United New Jersey Railroad and Canal Company in 1872 and was later leased by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1871. Group founded by PlatinumPlate2051.
