Description
In November 1795, Sir Rogers Fairmont landed upon the rugged northeastern coast and ventured inland, where he discovered a landscape of rolling hills, deep forests, winding rivers and sheltered natural harbours. Inspired by the region's beauty and promise, he established the first permanent settlement, laying the foundations for what would become the State of Fairmont. Over the decades, thriving coastal ports and quiet inland communities emerged, built upon maritime trade, shipbuilding, agriculture and industry, while the state's distinctive shoreline, scattered islands and enduring New England character cemented Fairmont's reputation as one of the nation's oldest and most historically significant states.
