Description
Hertuginde Louise Augustas Livjægercorps was a royal unit made for the king’s sister. The unit was stationed in Jutland and on Sjælland, but in the 1812 when the Danish Auxiliary Corps was established, the unit was ordered to march into Germany. It was stationed around Hamburg for a year, but when fighting began in 1813, it was immediately pulled into action. The unit served in many skirmishes, really marking their title of a royal battalion in the battle of Sehested, where a company held back a Hanoverian battalion. The 9th of December it fought a small skirmish. The unit protected 2 6-pdr guns, with assistance from some artillery crew. The unit was attacked by two Russian cavalry regiments and 20 Hanoverian Jægers. The unit surprisingly made it out of there, only suffering 4 losses. The battalion also had a musician company. It was a ceremonial company for the duchess, it wasn’t used it combat, although these men were trained to it.
