Description
The British Empire fought in the Napoleonic Wars against Napoleonic France from 1803 to 1815, relying on its Royal Navy to dominate global sea routes, block French trade, and secure overseas colonies. It formed and funded coalitions with Austria, Prussia, and Russia, fought major naval battles including Trafalgar in 1805 which destroyed French-Spanish naval power, and led sustained land campaigns in the Peninsular War alongside Spain and Portugal to weaken French forces in Europe. British forces and allies eventually contributed to Napoleon’s defeat at Waterloo in 1815, ending the wars and confirming Britain’s rise as a dominant global power.
