Description
he Duchy of Lancaster in the medieval period was a significant and powerful territorial and administrative entity in England, closely associated with the English monarchy. It was established in 1351 by King Edward III for his son, Henry of Grosmont, the first Duke of Lancaster. After Henry's death in 1361, the title and lands passed to his son-in-law, John of Gaunt, the fourth son of Edward III. Through John of Gaunt's marriage to Blanche of Lancaster, the Duchy became a cornerstone of the vast Lancastrian estates. 🏰
