Lanciarii Comaginenses #823422531
Description
The Lanciarii Comaginenses was rasied by Diocletian in the 3rd century. It was created from a detachment from a detachment of Legio I Noricorum with men from Noricum Ripense and Noricum Mediterraneum or of Legio X Gemina with men from the frontier zone and camps (Vienna, Petronell‑Carnuntum/Bad Deutsch‑Altenburg) of Pannonia Prima with some coming from the colonies of the province (Drnovo, Ptuj), with a few from Thrace. New recruitment happened in the region around Comagenis/Tulln An Der Donau. As the name suggests, members were armed with a lance suitable for both thrusting and throwing. It was at first a limitatinei unit stationed in western Illyricum at Tulln An Der Donau. In the 5th century, it was a legio pseudocomitatenses based in North Illyricum in the Diocese of Pannonia under the Comes Illyrici. The unit would exist until the late 5th century when it was disbanded due to lack of pay and members after heavy losses.
