Description
The Varangian Guard was an elite unit of the Byzantine Army originating from Kievan Rus'. The members served as personal bodyguards to the Byzantine Emperors. After the collapse of the Byzantine Empire they returned to Kievan Rus' for safe quarter and to form a mercenary company. They are close allies to the country of Kievan Rus' for the support they were given but they work for other nation armies independently.
