Description
VAT 69, or 69 Commando, was formed in October 1969 by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to counter the communist threat, taking its name from the year of its formation. It was modeled after the British Special Air Service (SAS) Regiment and served as a special combat unit specializing in jungle warfare, the use of weapons, and counter-terrorism operations. Formation and purpose: Formed on 23 October 1969 as a Special Task Force to combat the tactics and techniques of communist terrorists that were growing at the time. Inspiration: The main model for VAT 69 was the British 22nd Special Air Service (SAS) Regiment. Specialist: This unit was an elite force specializing in jungle warfare, the use of weapons, and other combat specialties, and was trained for special operations.
