Description
The Sultanate of Aussa is a lowland empire in the Horn of Africa that rose to prominence in the 1700s, with Asaita serving as its primary seat of power. We emerged from the older Adal Sultanate and the Mudaito dynasty, with our first Amoyta (Sultan) establishing a sovereign state in the harsh but strategic Danakil Desert. Our people claim a fierce independence and a legacy of desert warfare, adhering strictly to the Sunni Muslim faith. Throughout our history, we have guarded the gateway to the Red Sea, often clashing with the highlanders of the Ethiopian Empire to our west and navigating complex relationships with the nomadic tribes of the coast. We are masters of the scorched-earth defense, using the unforgiving terrain of the Afar Triangle to repel those who seek to control our trade routes. Now it is the 19th century. We remain the dominant power of the lowlands.
