Description
Frundsburg, often called the Father of the Landsknechts, is considered to be one of it not the most famous Landsknecht leader of the 16th Century. He led three previous regiments before the events of the Battle of Pavia in 1525; one raised 1504, another created around 1508, and a third created around 1514. This new regiment was commanded in the field by his Lieutenant, Jakob von Wernau. For the battle of Pavia in 1525, he created a new regiment for himself, recruiting in in Swabia but also in the Ems (in Austria), Vorarlberg, Western Austria, Tyrol and Alsace. At one point the men were ordered to wear white shirts over their doublet with some wearing scraps of paper.
