Description

The Republic of Gilead is a fictional, totalitarian, and patriarchal theocracy established in Margaret Atwood's dystopian novel The Handmaid's Tale and its adaptations. It occupies the territory of the former United States and is governed by a militarized, neo-Puritanical regime that forces citizens into strict social classes. "Blessed be the fruit".
