Description
The Hyōbu-shō (兵部省), or Ministry of Military Affairs, was responsible for the administration and organization of the state’s military forces under the Ritsuryō system. Its core functions included maintaining military registers, overseeing conscription, managing arms and equipment, and supervising provincial garrisons. It also handled the appointment and evaluation of military officers, as well as logistical matters such as troop mobilization and supply coordination.
