Linien-Infanterie Regiment "König" (King's Own) was a line infantry regiment that participated in the Napoleonic Wars, after the Prussian defeat in 1806 they were renamed from 1. Kurfürst to König to signify the change of the electoral status of Saxony to a Kingdom. Being a prestigious and respected regiment, it has become an honor and privilege to carry the banner and title of the King's Own. The regiment saw significant fighting from 1812-1814 having participated in the Patriotic War of 1812 and the Battle of Leipzig where the regiment defected to the coalition side alongside the majority of the forces that survived the long march from Russia.
